If Elvis is the granddaddy of rock and roll, then the Beatles are the cool uncles. That’s why ROCK ON THE BEACH will begin and end with a tribute to the Fab Four.
The 42-piece Cape Cod Concert Band under the direction of John P. Hagon will open with a catchy medley featuring Lennon and McCartney’s Hello, Goodbye, Penny Lane, Ticket to Ride and Can’t Buy Me Love. You’ll want to pay attention, because the Band will be closing the concert with the same piece—but the second time, you get to sing the words.
The sing-along reprise will be led by Frank Noonan, who plays euphonium with the CCCB. A retired soloist and director of Army and Marine Bands, Frank spends his summers as the fun-loving conductor of the Sandwich Town Band, where he’s been known to put down the baton to take a solo—on whatever lower brass instrument might be handy. Frank also leads the South Coast Musicians, an instrumental and vocal group that performs throughout the region.
Join us for an enjoyable program featuring plenty of classic hits, including music by Aerosmith, The Spice Girls, Bryan Adams and Julie Gold, with tunes made popular by Celine Dion, Barry Manilow and Bette Midler. So nod your head, clap your hands–and yes–please sing along!
