"People of Color on Cape Cod"

You are invited to join us at the Hyannis Public Library on Wednesday, August 5 when John Reed, President of Zion Union Heritage Museum, presents “People of Color on Cape Cod.”            Learn about the important role that African Americans, Cape Verdeans and other people of color have played on Cape Cod and the surrounding areas.  From the whaling and cranberry industries to the civil rights movement, over the centuries people of color have made great contributions to the rich history and heritage of the Cape and the Islands,  shaping it into what it is today.           John Reed is retired after a long career as a social studies teacher and attendance/equity officer at Barnstable High School. Among many other professional and personal contributions to the local Cape community, he has worked as a trainer with police departments in Barnstable and Falmouth, is past president of the NAACP Cape Cod, and was chair of the Barnstable County Human Rights Commission. Mr. Reed is the 2015 recipient of the Olive Branch Award from the International Fellowship of Reconciliation Cape Cod Chapter.
