Kenneth Hawkey: 30 Years in the National Seashore

EASTHAM, Mass. – Kenneth Hawkey: Thirty Years in the National Seashore is an exhibit of paintings that will be featured at Cape Cod National Seashore’s Salt Pond Visitor Center for the month of March. The exhibit is part of the Seashore’s ongoing series –Perspectives: Seeing Cape Cod National Seashore through Art. A reception will occur on Sunday, March 10th, 2-4pm.

This exhibit celebrates Hawkey’s 30th Anniversary of his first series of paintings of the Cape Cod National Seashore. Hawkey lives in Truro where the Cape Cod National Seashore encompasses nearly 70% of the town. Truro and the surrounding towns, the famed Cape Cod light, the history of the CCNS and how its role in helping preserve nature and history are the key elements that inspire and inform Hawkey’s work. Serving as a foundation of the exhibit are the formation and shifting of the dunes, waterways, woodlands, beaches, wildlife habitats, and the private residences found within the CCNS. One painting from 1989 will also be included along with new works to show how the Cape Cod National Seashore helped Hawkey develop as an artist over the years. A brief narrative for each piece will help the viewer discover more about each painted scene and the artist’s aesthetic. Hawkey is active in the arts community across Cape Cod and is represented by Larkin Gallery in Provincetown and Post Office Gallery in North Truro.
