Join Amy Whorf McGuiggan, granddaughter of artist John Whorf, for an informal talk and Power Point presentation about John Whorf’s years in Provincetown.
Born in Winthrop, Massachusetts in 1903, Whorf spent childhood summers with his grandmother in her East End home. In 1919 he began his studies with Charles Hawthorne and George Elmer Browne with whom he travelled extensively in Europe during the winter months.
By 1935, Whorf and his family had relocated permanently to Provincetown where he became the chronicler of the celebrated art colony, inspired by its lively summer waterfront as well as its bleak winter serenity.
Amy Whorf McGuiggan will talk about Hawthorne’s influence on Whorf’s work and will show a selection of Provincetown paintings from her new book, John Whorf Rediscovered . The book will be available for purchase from the PAAM giftshop.
