Herring Run: Life and Death at Stony Brook presents a photographic essay of the interaction between alewives and herring gulls made famous in The Run, by naturalist John Hay in 1959. Elliott Carr has never labeled himself a birder, a photographer or a naturalist, but when he retired in 2005, the ease with which he could take great pictures with a digital camera led him to take thousands of pictures of a nearby herring run.
