Harry Allen Trio at Gallery on Main Saturday, August 5.

The Harry Allen Trio includes saxophonist Harry Allen, jazz guitarist Gray Sargent and bassist Marshall Wood – all notable jazz performers.

Mr. Allen is acclaimed as one of the leading swing players in jazz today. While other saxophone players have adopted the contemporary sound of John Coltrane, Mr. Allen has remained true to swing with a sound reminiscent of Stan Getz, Coleman Hawkins and Ben Webster.  John Pizzarelli said of Allen, ““Harry Allen’s playing is nothing less than perfect.”

Guitarist Gray Sargent and bassist Marshall Wood join Allen to create a trio with deep roots in jazz.   Recognized as a jazz and swing/bop guitarist, Sargent played with Illinois Jacquet and Dave McKenna.  Sargent toured with Tony Bennett for 24 years and performed on several of his Grammy winning recordings

Bassist Marshall Wood started recording and touring with Bennet.  Wood is featured on Bennett’s Double Platinum Grammy Award winning album Duets II, Tony Bennett At 90, and his duet recordings with Lady GaGa.
