Harmon Gallery Art Opening

On Saturday July 4, 2015 from 5 pm to 7 pm, an opening reception for artists Traci Harmon-Hay and Cynthia Guild will be held at the Harmon Gallery, 95 Commercial Street, Wellfleet, MA.

Traci Harmon-Hay- “Don’t think I’m on the edge,” Harmon says with a laugh. Apparently several friends have been worried that her swimming pool series represents Harmon confronting a daunting emptiness, when in fact it’s actually the opposite. “This is me basically facing my dreams,” she says. “And they are filled with hope and fear simultaneously. These empty spaces have been showing up in my dreams for years. Painting the pools helps me to understand my fears, to put them into a visual form.”

Cynthia Guild uses freighters as metaphoric portraits to simultaneously embody strength, the power of will, and vulnerability, bringing to mind the journey that constitutes an individual’s lifetime, much like the passage of ships on the sea. Many of the paintings are worked from web surveillance camera images, bringing a peculiar distance to the work.
