The Falmouth Art Center will host local artist Joe Diggs of Osterville for a lecture about his artistic influences.
For the lecture, in honor of Black History Month, Mr. Diggs will discuss a topic central to his art: finding a group of artists that reflected his sensibilities in order to find where he fits into the artistic continuum. “Because American history has never been kind to black and brown people, it was important for me to seek them out,” he said. In his talk, Mr. Diggs will discuss influential artists such as Ed Clark, Jack Whitten and Mel Edwards, among others.
Joe Diggs of Osterville recently had a one-man show at Cotuit Center for the Arts that celebrated his family’s popular club, Joe’s Twin Villa. He was born in Croix Chapeau, France to a military family. He graduated from Southeastern Massachusetts University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Art Painting and has a Masters of Fine Art Degree from Massachusetts College of Art and Design.
“To me painting is magic; images appear out of nothing, blobs of color transform themselves to a new meaning. Creating art gives me the opportunity to share my visual experiences. I identify with the power of the image and re-represent it to my audience. I want my work to invoke thoughts and emotions that will take the viewer on a visual journey.”
