My art practice is in Provincetown, in my home with my husband Jack on a family property. This allows me access to a vital and alive arts colony where I show at Berta Walker Gallery and teach at Castle Hill, PAAM and the Art Guild.

Each of my pieces begins working directly from nature; a model or still life or myself. With the pandemic at the one-year mark, courses on zoom, taught by Alana Barrett and me, take us one step from nature. The online courses give artists continuity and a connection in a year of great isolation. www.shabottbarrett.com

I was introduced to Hans Hofmann, the teacher of the Abstract Expressionists and my greatest influence, by Berta Walker Gallery where I worked, and now exhibit. Figurative Expressionist Robert Henry – a student of Hofmann’s, master teacher and represented by Berta – welcomed me into his classroom and I returned to painting and drawing.
