James Alexander

Visual Arts: Painting

Having taken an early retirement and I am thrilled that I can now dedicate my efforts full time to my art. Having a life-like quality, my carvings are prized additions to many collectors. The awareness of nature is evident in all my carvings and artwork. I attempt to blend the warmth of wood and my love of wildlife into a one of a kind creations. My work centers around waterfowl, shorebirds, wildfowl, raptors and a variety of birds found throughout New England. Prior to creating a carving I spend days, sometimes weeks studying reference material (photos, books, anatomy, feather patterns, etc.)on a particular species to ensure all information is as complete and accurate as possible. I often visits wildlife sanctuaries and other waterfowl habitats whenever possible to photograph my subjects.

Laura Balboni (Craciun)

Teacher/Instructor; Visual Arts: Painting

Laura Balboni is a classically trained violist, graduate from Peabody Conservatory of Music, Johns Hopkins University, native of Easton and Brewster Massachusetts. Because her music career was cut short due to wrist injuries, she saught a different creative outlet, and her natural ability for visual art became her new path. She has studied portraiture with John Kilroy, Pulido studios, at RISD , and MICA. After illustrating two children's books, Ms. Balboni started painting commissioned portraits, and showing her paintings in pastel and oil at 820 Main Gallery in 2010, and started teaching viola and art at the Cape Cod Conservatory in 2011. In 2016, she won first place in the Creative Arts Center, All Cape Cod Show, 2D, and the William Merit Chase "Excellence in Plein Air Painting", Nantucket Arts Association honorable mention. Laura is the new artist of the HyArts campus, Hyannis, where she hosts the Cape Cod Art Salon with weekly figurative painting sessions. Laura has most recently begun painting portraits on location of weddings and events.

Thomas Bollinger (°1964, Washington DC) has been producing creative content for over four decade , he has an incredibly wide range of artistic interest and creates mixed media artworks, illustration photography, graphic design, printmaking and new media. With the use of original & historic materials that are borrowed from modern and ancient cultures and mixed with historical references literature, visual works, and design elements. This genre of iconography creates a visual form of storytelling that plays with the past, present and future in a whimsical & interpretive way. Marcia Brown

Since 1979 The Binding Stitch has serviced needlework retailers nationwide for finishing needs. Beginning in 1990, Marcia began teaching needlework finishing classes nationwide and soon added a design portion to the company featuring counted thread designs based on antique sampler motifs and contemporary themes. In 2003, the manufacturing portion of the company was sold with Marcia retaining the design and teaching portion of the company as well as a smaller finishing element for private students and former customers.

I have always loved working with wood and began turing in 2004. My work often starts with a log or limb and a chainsaw and often ends with a nicely turned object, sometimes it ends as â€œfancy firewoodâ€ or a chew toy for my dog Coco. (I do burn a lot of my work and Coco gets her fair share to chew!) Some of my work that did not go to the fire pit or dog was shown at two of the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod shows, â€œWhen We Were Youngerâ€ and â€œFirst Things Firstâ€.

Sue Dahling Sullivan

Multi Arts; Visual Arts: Constructions/Collage, Crafts, Mixed Media

Sue is a mixed media artist with an award-winning background in nonprofit arts management. Her artistic work has been featured throughout Cape Cod including local galleries like Woodruff’s as well as through public art installations at Heritage Museums and Gardens and Provincetown’s Green Arts Festival. Primarily a self-taught artist who has taken workshops at Maine’s Haystack School of Crafts and Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts, she is also a published writer. Sue also works as the Chief Strategic Officer at Boston’s performing arts center stewarding the historic Wang and Shubert Theaters at the Boch Center, and oversees the statewide expansion of ArtWeek, an award-winning creative festival. A graduate of Dartmouth’s Amos Tuck School of Business and Mount Holyoke College, she currently lives in Mashpee, Massachusetts.

By happenstance and for reasons known to me, I explore the possibility of seeing intricate parts of the world in a larger way. I am able to appreciate an observation without having the entirety of a moment distract me. My visions are ever changing. The details, at times, tangible realities and, at others, blurred "shadows against random space." The observer should experience my imagery without my prejudice. The eye that looks upon it owns the suggestion, representation, and interpretation. That is what makes my art meaningful. Hollis Engley

My partner Kimberly Sheerin and I make up The Barn Pottery, a studio, teaching space and gallery at 359 Barlows Landing Road in Pocasset. We make high-fired, functional pottery for the home. Our work is fired here in our gas kiln or in friends' wood-fueled kilns. Our gallery is open every day, year-round. Each of us has worked in clay for more than 25 years. In addition, Kimberly teaches both adults and children in our studio. Both of us also teach at the Falmouth Art Center.

Painting was always important to me. I started oil painting when I was in my teens. My mother was very artistic and did wonderful water colors. She would often advise me as to color and values. I studied art in college and I have studied under Adam Solequ at the National Gallery of Art. Most of my work is representational however I enjoy doing abstract work as well. In all of my painting I focus on light, color and composition. I am a member of the National Association of Women Artists and a Board Member of the Massachusetts Chapter. I am a member of Oil Painters of America. I stay involved in the art world through my affiliation with the Provincetown Art Association and the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod. My paintings have been journeyed into shows though out the country including the Rockport Art Association and The Cahoon Museum of American Art. My representation has been through The White Swan Gallery, The Birdsey Gallery and the Lambertville Gallery of Fine Art.

Kate Gubbins

Calligrapher, fine and decorative artist working in many media. I am a bit of a writer, too, and a teacher; and, above all, Curious. Seems letters have always circled around my works either through writing letters, in handwork or, in particular, when I was a typesetter—back in the day. “Language” is all that anything is—you need to know and understand it before you can use it. Once you see, do or someone explains to you how things work and it makes sense to you, you have the tools to do whatever it is you want to do. I’m a self-taught artist. I’ve been creating since I was four or five making my own paper dolls and clothes, often replicating the ones I cut out of the Sunday Funnies every week. That’s where I bloomed—finding out everything about anything I liked and then tried to master each skill. Today, I love to paint still lifes and flowers in oil. I love working with children as they work with art materials and expand their imaginations. And, I love to teach.

Kenneth Hawkey

Kenneth is represented by Larkin Gallery, Inc. with galleries in Provincetown and Harwich Port. He exhibits year-round while presenting new work at both locations each summer. He has also exhibited with many other venues, groups and galleries on Cape Cod and throughout the Greater Northeast. Hawkey’s representational approach to painting makes familiar and even unfamiliar places accessible, comfortable and allows the viewer to easily relate to the work. He is most noted for his informed paintings of historic places and of architectural and natural sites using the subtleties as well as the boldness of light in his work.

Valerie Leri

Valerie Leri graduated from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst in 1982 with a Bachelor's of Fine Arts. She has been painting ever since and is now an established Cape Cod artist. Living on Cape Cod is a source of great inspiration for her, creating landscapes and seascapes. Her style would be considered abstract expressionism or impressionistic. Her mission is to create paintings that are uplifting, both for the viewer and for herself. To that end, she often uses bright, bold colors or soft pastels. Her painting is more about flow than form. In the end, her paintings are an invitation to dream!

Traci Noone

Traci Noone is an artist and an optimist who makes pots for flowers, pots for food and pots for fun. She grew up in a small, rural town in Central Massachusetts named for the redness of the soil. Perhaps that explains her affinity for earthenware. Traci studied both at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst and at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Today she is a self-taught potter residing on the Lower Cape where she has been making and learning about pots for the past fifteen years. She exhibits locally and as Mountain Laurel Pottery sells her flowers and pots at the local Farmers' Market in Orleans. Traci casts and hand builds her functional wares and likes to experiment with traditional techniques and materials. When asked to describe her pottery, Traci's sixteen year-old daughter replies, "It is hipster pretty, sweaters and coffee chop pretty!"- in other words, warm and comfortable with a stimulating earthiness.

Karen Rinaldo

Karen Rinaldo started her art business in 1972. Her work documents the sensitive landscape of Cape Cod and the Islands . " The larger body of my work has a theme of historical related subjects. Most recently I was commissioned by the Falmouth Preservation Alliance to create a series of Heritage Maps that focus on the villages comprising my town of Falmouth, Ma. We are surrounded by incredible beauty and history and these are key components considered in the creation of this series. I am proud to be a part of a visual essay something that residents and visitors to this special place can appreciate the lore and the legend that is a part of our Cape Cod. . In 2015 Ms. Rinaldo rec. The Heritage Award from the Falmouth Historical Society. In 1995 Karen was commissioned to paint the first historically accurate First Thanksgiving /1621 painting. It was part of Plimouth Plantation display for 20 yrs.

Gregg Roberts

Visual Arts: Crafts; Sailor's Valentines

Cape Cod native and Sailor’s Valentine award winning artist, Gregg Roberts, is a singer, poet and self-taught artisan. He resides, teaches and maintains a studio in the seaside village of Cotuit, Massachusetts, the home of the Cahoon Museum of Americana Art with its Sailor’s Valentine collection including work by noted Sailor’s Valentine artist, Bernard Woodman. The Gregg Roberts Studio includes an immense collection of shells and nautical memorabilia used in the creation of his distinctive works, serves as a gallery of Gregg’s existing Sailor’s Valentines and houses Gregg’s instructional classes. Gregg created his first Sailor’s Valentine in 1984 following an inspirational recollection of seeing a Sailor’s Valentine on a childhood trip to the maritime museum at the Mystic Seaport in Connecticut. From the beginning his distinctive artistry became apparent as Gregg incorporated his knowledge of knot tying into the traditional shell based style of Barbados based Sailor’s Valentine artists favored by B. H. Belgrave. Recognition of his talent followed quickly as Gregg participated in the Sanibel Shell Show, the oldest and most prestigious shellcraft global competition and won prizes in the professional sailor’s valentine and jewelry categories. He also has been recognized as one of the country’s most prominent Sailor’s Valentine artists by Grace L. Madeira in her seminal book, Sailors’ Valentines…Their Journey Through Time in which six of his pieces are featured. Examples of Gregg Roberts’ Sailor’s Valentines can be found at the Cultural Center of Cape Cod where Gregg lectures and holds classes for novice artisans and at Roger Williams University in Bristol, RI. The commissioned Sailor’s Valentine, “The Bristol Piece”, hangs in the Global Heritage Hall and is believed to be the world’s largest Sailor’s Valentines measuring 48 inches in diameter. Gregg Roberts’ Sailor’s Valentines are frequently included in art, maritime history and lifestyle publications most recently in the January, 2018 issue of Cape Cod Magazine. As of January 2018, Gregg Roberts has formed Gregg Roberts Design, a new organization to market his and other artists’ Sailor’s Valentine works. Cape Cod resident Lee Hill has joined Gregg Roberts Design as Managing Partner. Lee is a founding member of the Photographic Center of Cape Cod, the former General Manager of Leica Camera and former Board Member of the International Center of Photography in New York City.

Gretchen Romey-Tanzer

Graphic Arts; Teacher/Instructor; Visual Arts: Crafts, Textiles; Weaver

My work is designed, hand woven and framed by me. I use a complex double layer woven structure with colorful fine cotton thread that gives me unlimited design opportunities. The designs come from detailed colored pencil sketches derived from direct observation and my imagination. The structure of the cloth lends its self to abstract compositions with a Modernist effect. The pieces are finished by hand sewing them to a stretched linen canvas to hang on the wall. The end result is a sleek framed piece of handwoven textile art.

Bob Singer

Bob Singer (MNEC) is a juried Master Artist in fine art photography and instructor at the Cape Cod Art Association in Barnstable, MA and a member/instructor at Cotuit Center for the Arts. His fine art images, which transcend traditional photography to contemporary styles, hang in homes and offices across the United States and Europe and are always popular at Cape Cod art galleries and exhibitions. Bob's work has earned hundreds of awards and international honors in national and international competitions and salons. His photographic images and articles on digital photography have appeared in and on the covers of national magazines such as Pan Am Clipper, Computer Graphics World and Electronic Publishing as well as in the consumer press and on-line, in brochures and catalogues and in video productions. He is expert in the digital darkroom, Adobe Lightroom Classic and Adobe Photoshop. Bob judges and teaches photography, Lightroom, Photoshop, High Dynamic Range (HDR) Imaging and other advanced techniques, composition and visual message classes, conducts photo workshops and photo tours, and presents photography seminars and programs at clubs, associations, salons and conventions across the Northeast.
