Join Sturgis Library for an in depth discussion on Publishing and Editing with three writers of contemporary fiction.
Sturgis Library Presents:
Publishing and Editing: A Conversation with Claire Polders, Daniel Presley, and Corey Farrenkopf
Wednesday December 12th, 2018 @ 6PM
Topics include:
The Dreaded Question What is your book about? Every author will have to answer that question sooner or later. It’s best to be prepared. How you hook a reader is how you hook an agent, a publisher, a producer, and so on. What does high-concept mean and why does the market want it? What is an elevator pitch? From personal experiences at the Cannes Film Festival to concrete advice on how to write a catchy synopsis, Daniel Presley will speak about how best to answer the dreaded question.
The Long Game of Short Work The road to a published novel or memoir often begins with the publication of short work. Not only to capture an agent’s attention and assemble a body of work, but also to practice and benefit from feedback. From the submission process and dealing with rejection to social interaction and self-promotion, Claire Polders will speak about how to find your place in the writers’ community.
