Special Falconer Exhibit Coming to Atwood House & Museum

Presented by Chatham Historical Society at Atwood House & Museum

A sampling of the works, photos and memorabilia of Chatham’s “First Lady of Art,” Marguerite (Peg) Falconer, will be featured at the Atwood House & Museum in a collaboration with Gallery Antonia from Oct. 2 to Dec. 29.

“Marguerite E. Falconer: An Artist’s Journey” explores the works of one of Chatham’s famous artists and includes a collection of 16 of her original paintings.

Ms. Falconer (1919 – 2016) was a fixture on Chatham’s Main Street, painting in the front window of the McElwain-Falconer Art Gallery, shared with fellow artist Dan McElwain, beginning in 1968, the same year Richard Costello and George Payne opened the Chatham Squire across the street.

The following year, she called on fellow local artists to form the Creative Arts Center in Chatham. She taught classes there for years.

Ms. Falconer’s works are a part of the permanent collection and archives of the National Museum of Women in the Arts, The American Museum of Art at Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C. and the Cape Museum of Fine Arts.
