West Barnstable's "Mad Jack" Percival in the Pacific: Mutineers and Swimmin' Women

Presented by 1717 Meetinghouse Foundation, Inc. at 1717 Meetinghouse

"Mad Jack" Percival, of West Barnstable, was one of the most colorful and controversial of early U.S. Navy characters. Most famous for sailing the USS Constitution around the world--more than 52,000 miles--"Mad Jack" rescued the survivors of the deadly Nantucket whaleship "Globe" mutiny. Hear the story of that mutiny, its aftermath, and "Mad Jack's" battle with the New England missionaries in Hawaii, who were changing the culture of the monarchy there. . . .
