Presented by Sturgis Library at Sturgis Library

The History of Sailor’s Valentines with Gregg Roberts at Sturgis Library Tuesday April 17 @ 6PM

Award winning artist, Gregg Roberts, will be giving a lecture on the history of Sailor’s Valentines, a traditional style of folk-art once crafted by sailors in the whaling industry. These designs utilize a broad selection of natural shells and flat rope knotting techniques painstakingly made by the artist. Roberts will     discuss both what goes into creating such works and the cultural significance of the tradition. His work will be on display in our lobby throughout April.
