One of New England’s leading jazz ensembles returns to the Cultural Center for a joyful salute to spring!
The quintet, led by Bruce Abbott on saxophone and flute, and Fred Fried on 8-string guitar, and featuring the fabulous vocalist Marcelle Gauvin will perform great jazz favorites in keeping with the season. Included will be such memorable tunes as Vernon Duke’s April in Paris; Richard Rodgers’ It Might as Well be Spring and Spring is Here; the poignant Tommy Wolf ballad, Spring Can Really Hang You Up the Most; Michel LeGrand’s haunting You Must Believe in Spring; and great jazz standards such as Freddie Hubbard’s Up Jumped Spring and Clifford Brown’s Joy Spring.
The group also salutes Memorial Day with a heartfelt arrangement of the World War 1 classic, My Buddy. Rounding out this all-star ensemble are bassist Michael Lavoie and drummer Miki Matsuki. Complimentary refreshments will be served.
