Outermost Contra Dance

Outermost Contra Dance

Presented by Outermost Contra Dance at Wellfleet Preservation Hall

Celebrate autumn with a dance!! Outermost Contradance invites you to come out and dance the old time dances of New England, to the traditional musical repertoires of New England, Canada, the British Isles and Appalachia. Contra dancing is the older cousin to the square dance. No fancy footwork - all dances are led by a professional caller, and the music is always live and lively!

This month we feature local favorite caller John Alden, calling contras, squares, circles and mixers. John will be musically accompanied by Chatham fiddler Rose Clancy, and renowned pianist Jacqueline Schwab.

Each dance starts with a “Contra Skills” session for dancers of all levels. Come early, whether you are a beginner or an experienced dancer who wants to refine your moves.  Or, just come to listen to the fantastic live music!  Dances start at 7:00 with a community potluck at 6:00.  Everyone is welcome.  A suggested donation is $10, with $20 maximum per group.

Outermost Contra Dance hosts traditional New England contra dances on the Outer Cape with live music every third Friday of each month. Outermost Contra is one of many contradances on the Cape, and was organized in December of 2014.  The contra dance is family friendly and welcomes dancers of all levels.
