For the Love of Color

For the Love of Color

Presented by Cape Cod Museum of Art at Cape Cod Museum of Art

Cape Cod Museum of Art Welcomes an Exhibit of the Signature Members of the Pastel Painters Society of Cape Cod (PPSCC) and “A Diversity of Styles: Pastel Selections from the Permanent Collection.”

“Even before it blooms in our glorious sculpture garden, we are delighted to invite Spring in with the delicious visual tastes of color that artists working with pastels are so passionate about,” said Deede Tonelli, executive director of Cape Cod Museum of Art (CCMOA).

“The pure touch of pigment to paper, the seductive array of beautiful sticks laid out like candy at our fingertips, draws every pastelist to this direct sensuous medium, “explains member Jeanne Rosier Smith.

Betsy Payne Cook, Chairperson of the Signature Members of the PPSCC says, “Pastel colors can be bold and vibrant, soft and soothing. The overlapping pastel strokes of color seduce the viewer into the soul of the painting.”

This exhibition celebrates the extensive range of the pastelists who have been awarded the honor of Signature Membership for consistent excellence. Cape Cod artist Jane Lincoln, whose work concentrates on the intrigue of color relationships, is the juror for this show and will present Juror’s Awards on the evening of the reception.

In conjunction with “For the Love of Color,” a group of CCMoA Docents have curated a companion exhibition in the Polhemus Savery DaSilva Gallery of the museum, titled, “A Diversity of Styles: Pastel Selections from the Permanent Collection.”

This more intimate installation provides an historical and educational context for the larger contemporary show.  The curators have provided background information on the history of pastel painting and on each individual artist’s style.

Both exhibitions will be on view at the museum through April 30, 2017.
