In 2008, two dear friends celebrated their 60th birthdays. One went on a silent retreat for three weeks and wrote poetry. The other got a personal trainer, cosmetic dentistry, Botox, Juvaderm, and laser treatments. Using one of the poems, Hags and Crones, as their inspiration, the two created the Wrinkles Review. The work was further shaped, developed, and directed by Broadway producer and longtime friend, Dani Davis as a “work in progress” performance at WHAT in 2010. Sold out houses and standing ovations encouraged the writers to keep working toward the development of an evening-length, two-act musical. With the intention of empowering older women, the writers based the script on real stories of Cape women ages 60-95 shared in workshops, interviews, and seminars. The Cape Cod Theatre Company presents the premiere of Wrinkles, the Musical, A Celebration of Women and Aging written by Naomi Turner and Wilderness Sarchild; directed by Nina Schuessler; with music by Grammy Award winner Jason Howland, Cape recording artist Sarah Burrill, and composer and musical director Malcolm Granger.
