Second-Year Poetry Fellow A. H. JERRIOD AVANT is from Longtown, MS. A graduate of Jackson State University, he has earned M.F.A. degrees from Spalding University and New York University, where he was a Writer in the Public Schools Fellow. A graduate of the Callaloo Creative Writing Workshop at Brown University, he has had poems appear in the Mississippi Review, Boston Review, Pinwheel, Louisville Review, The Rumpus, Callaloo, and other journals. He is the recipient of two Pushcart nominations, the Joseph F. McCrindle Online Editorial Fellowship from Poets & Writers, and a Vermont Studio Center residency.
Second-Year Fiction Fellow TOM MACHER grew up in New York, Georgia, California, and Louisiana. He is a graduate of the Iowa Writers' Workshop, where he received a Teaching-Writing Fellowship, and his short stories have appeared in Mississippi Review, Slice Magazine, Hobart, Bull, and Day One. A memoir about his time living in a halfway house in Louisiana is forthcoming from Scribner.
