Naturescape Gallery at the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History is proud to present original one-of-a-kind Fish Rubbings by Chatham artist Jennifer Bovey

February 18 ~ March 31, 2017. 

 Artist and full time professional dead fish rubber, Jenny Bovey, will exhibit her mono prints made by brushing various colorants over native marine life caught by local fishermen. The process requires the skillful pressing and rubbing of real fish, crustaceans, mollusks, shellfish, and plant life onto a variety of surfaces. The result is a unique impression referred to as "Gyotaku".  Gyotaku, (gyo-fish, taku-rubbing) which was first practiced in Japan to record a prized catch.

 

Bovey is a native of Concord, MA, whose family has summered in Chatham since 1962. Growing up in an artistic family, she has studied studio arts since grade school.  Jennifer launched Blue Water Fish Rubbings with her husband in Baltimore, Maryland over 28 years ago. In 1994 they moved to Chatham and opened Blue Water Fish Rubbings, which sells her work exclusively on clothing, accessories, wall prints, and other home furnishings, is located at 505 Main St in Chatham, MA.
