Discover the age-old art of carving and printing a woodcut with printmaker and artist Alice Galick!
Woodcut dates to 220 BC in China for textile printing and early 1300s in Europe for illustration. The process is easily to learn. You will start by carving a “plate” from wood with a relief design, then you'll roll ink onto the remaining surface to print on fine art papers. We will explore ways to also print unique monoprints from the woodcut by using a different papers/color layers of ink and a variety of ways to position the plate.
