"Under the Soviet Shadow: Where History Meets Fiction": On the Sickle's Edge by Neville Frankel

With the current refugee crisis in Europe reaching a scale unknown since World War II and immigration issues inserting themselves into our national dialogue, this talk illuminates today’s issues, even as it sheds penetrating insight from the past.

Using On the Sickle’s Edge, his latest work of historical fiction, as an example, Emmy-award winning writer and Brewster author, Neville Frankel, returns to the Brewster Ladies Library to provide deep insight into his creative process. He will discuss the delicate balance between integrating historical detail while remaining faithful to the family stories that inspired the novel. His discussion will also bring to life the historical backdrop of Soviet-era Russia that has haunting overtones in today’s geopolitical climate. On the Sickle’s Edge is currently under consideration by the American Library Association for inclusion on its Notables Books List.
