Explore the myriad possibilities involved in the process of a hand-pulled print. Monotype, a painterly process, involves painting or drawing on a substrate, (plexiglass,) choosing a compatible printmaking paper, and, after registering the plate and paper, rolling it through the press to create a unique work of art.
During this workshop we will explore modifying the inks for best results, registration, additive and subtractive techniques, and the use of stencils and layering. While we will be using AKUA intaglio inks, we will also experience combining them with dry pigments (already mixed with binder) to enhance and build colors of your choice. While using a limited palette, we’ll explore mixing paints to achieve one’s personal palette and discuss color theory applied to printmaking. This is a non-toxic environment thus no solvents will be used in this workshop. Price includes $30 materials fee.
