Experiment with a wide range of materials and techniques and discover what kind of art you like to make. During this six-week course, adults will have the opportunity to explore over two dozen ways to make art. No prior art experience is necessary; this is a beginner course designed to help adults discover their creativity in a supportive setting. Plan to have fun as you learn about the following:
Collage • let the scissors do the work as you mix papers of all kinds.
Drawing • no worries, get over your fear of drawing with quick sketches and gestures all kinds of mark making tools.
Printing • try Gelli printing, foam block relief, linoleum block, and make a simple stamp.
Painting • experiment with brushes and other tools to move paint, learn the differences between watercolors and acrylics, and how they respond to various mediums.
Pastels • try both oil based and chalk based.
Resist • see if you like wax, frisket, stencils or masks.
How will we ever fit this into six weeks? We will briefly touch on many things; you’ll discover what mediums you would like to pursue. Also, each person will select one item to focus on for their art experimentation. For example, if you choose a feather, you will draw, paint etc. that one thing. Each week, you will focus on the how to depict the feather; at the end of the course you will arrange the saved work into a sampler book of visual art techniques.
All materials are provided.
