A Passion to Save Art

They will show examples of the amazing ways in which they save art from fire, flooding, age and neglect through their nationally-known business, Cape Cod Picture Framing and Restoring, located in Dennis, MA.

“Bringing an artwork back to life is very rewarding.  I can’t wait to see what happens as day to day I see a painting emerge from smoke or soot,” says Ron Lindholm, a restoration specialist for 38 years.

While Ron works mainly on paper, his daughter Tracy, who studied at the Lorenzo De Medici School of Restoration in Florence, Italy, restores paintings.  “Tracy is brilliant at color matching,” Ron says.  In her 17 years as a fine arts restorer she has become familiar with brushwork and colors on a very deep level.

The company has been doing much disaster work.  Recently they received 400 artworks that were damaged in Hurricane Sandy.  Flooded in a foot and a half of water.  Ron solved the problems of the brown residue and extensive mold by building his own fumigation chamber and creating a special chemical process.  98% of the pieces were fully restored.

Locally, they have restored paintings for individuals who have inherited paintings through their families that need care, and they often restore art for historical societies and museums.

The museum galleries are open and free on ARTfull Thursdays from 5 – 8 pm. The fee for this talk is $12; $10 for members.  A reception will follow the talk.

Hours are 10 am to 5 pm Tuesday through Saturday and noon to 5 pm on Sunday.  It is open on Thursdays from 5 – 8 with no admission fee.  General Admission is $9, $7 for seniors and students 19+ with school ID, $5 for students 13 to 18, and free for children 12 & under.
