2nd Wednesday Theater: Survivor to Thriver

2nd Wednesday Theater: a monthly play-reading of rarely-performed classics, undiscovered gems, old chestnuts, and exciting new works. On May 8, we present Survivor to Thriver, by Meridith Baier.

Conceived to bring awareness to the issue of human trafficking throughout the U.S. and Cape Cod region, Survivor to Thriver is the final product of a 2016 Smith College Magic Grant. Baier collected oral histories of women who had been trafficked in the United States and turned those narratives into a staged reading.

She describes Survivor to Thriver as a “docu-theater piece which brings to the stage narratives of women who have been sex and/or labor trafficked within the U.S. and cape Cod region. It gives voice to women who have been traditionally silenced, allowing their lived experiences to enlighten, educate, and empower audience members.

Meridith Baier trained and worked professionally as an actor/singer in the Washington D.C., San Francisco, and Chicago regions and worked extensively with theatrical designers Helen Pond and Herbert Senn as an artisan for Boston Ballet and Opera New England productions.
