General Outline
These positions are open to undergraduate and graduate students, and recent graduates who majored or are majoring in art, art history, arts administration, museum studies, arts education, and similar fields. The summer internship program runs June through August during weekday office hours, with a weekly minimum commitment of 20 hours. Limited evening and weekend attendance is required. This is an unpaid position, but interns will be compensated with a one-year PAAM membership, letters of recommendation, and free admission to a Summer Program workshop of their choosing. We are happy to help satisfy documentation requirements for college credit if applicable, but we are unable to sponsor international students in the United States on a student visa.

Interns will gain hands-on, working knowledge of the behind-the-scenes operations of a century-old New England museum, art association, and museum school, working both as a team member and independently on various projects. Attributes of qualifying interns include but are not limited to: flexibility to help staff with various operational tasks outside the specific scope of their internship position, museum programming and event support, the ability to follow instruction, to work independently, intelligently, responsibly, efficiently, and with sensitivity to handling artwork and the public at large. Excellent record keeping skills a must. Knowledge of Mac and PC platforms, Adobe InDesign, WordPress, and Constant Contact are helpful as well. Opportunities may be available in a variety of museum areas including: special events, visitor services, exhibition support, and promotion and marketing. Physical work is required of all interns. Great sense of humor is mandatory.

Museum School Internship
Work directly with PAAM Museum School Program Administrator Kiah Coble. Must have an interest in education and program development. Duties include but are not limited to: workshop support including class orientation and photo documentation, studio set up and breakdown, teaching artist assistance, broader research projects, and administrative duties. This position requires the ability to keep track of a rotating workshop schedule, independent and forward thinking, flexible hours, and a pleasant, welcoming demeanor.

Collections Internship
Work directly with PAAM Registrar Seth Abrahamson on day-to-day and long-term projects related to archives, collection, and exhibitions. Duties include but are not limited to: exhibition support (installation, documentation, creating exhibition specific collateral, et cetera), digitization of archives and collection, updating of existing databases, expansion of online collection access, responding to research inquiries, and more. This position requires the utmost attention to detail, ability to follow extremely specific instruction, a basic understanding of different media types, and the physical ability to safely handle heavy works of art and related objects.
