Originally from Northern New Jersey across the river from Manhattan.  My surroundings at an early age encompassed theater, ballet, writing and music as well as art. Proximity to New York City afforded so much to absorb.  I was the first member of my family to go to college starting with Montclair University and later the completion of a Masters Degree in Art Education from New York University. Early years were spent teaching Art as well as designing (free-lance Graphic Design and Illustration).

When I resettled on Cape Cod in 1984, I taught Art at Cape Cod Community College from 1984-2000. During that time, I went back to school to get a second masters degree:  MFA  in Visual Arts and Printmaking from UMASS  in Dartmouth.  Though I have always been committed to teaching Art and opening a new world of seeing and creating, my own world increasingly centers on creating my art and exhibiting both nationally and internationally.  I had a recent solo show at Cape Museum of Fine Arts entitled, “Nature: the Obsessive Quest” which closed in January of 2015 and now an upcoming solo show at the Cotuit Center for the Arts, which opens February 20, 2016: “Shifting and Unfolding”

More About the Artist

Themes in Work:

My art is eclectic in nature and tends to revolve around ideas garnered from my environment which now moves between two places: Cape Cod and Florida. As a result my art can express all things centering around city life and strip malls in Florida; or it can express Nature on Cape Cod in more poetic terms. Lately there has been a more pronounced tendency towards Abstracted forms discovered in a series called, "Drawing From a Moving Car". These drawings (actually depicting a changing landscape at high speeds) has impacted my art and I now lean toward free gestural expression that is fluid and more calligraphic with elements of Movement. Additionally, Printmaking has opened up a world of materials and techniques so that Exploring and Experimenting is an added component of my art. I may start with an idea but the image develops on its own terms as an autonomous entity. I find this interaction to be absorbing and it results in a prolific body of work. I simply try to let the Art develop freely almost like handwriting or moving with currents of water. The interaction between myself and the final image is so thoroughly enjoyable that I will never look back.
